The Dugout Premiership

Following the TD Championship, I promised that I was working on a new and potentially very exciting challenge. Well, here it is. So, what is it?

Essentially, I am looking for 20 volunteers to take part in a multi-player network Premier League. Don't worry, we're not looking to have all 20 people online at once as that would be completely unmanageable.

It will work like this:

If you are interested, then indicate that you would like to join by posting in this thread
When the 20 is available, I'll post the list of players in the order they signed up
In the order I have posted, each player can choose any club in the world to manage except the list posted below
When the teams have been decided, there will be a draft whereby each player can bring two new players to their chosen club. More on that later
I will edit a database putting all of the teams and players chosen into one league and a save game available for download
We are then good to go
As and when you can, each player will play each other player twice - once home and once away
This will be done on a one-to-one basis so that people can complete games when they wish and are available, subject to the "disciplinary rules" below
Games will be played by the "home" player hosting the game, using the Hamachi Guide linked below the other player will connect to the game, add themselves as their chosen club manager and a friendly will be arranged between the two clubs
Once the game is played, the home player will post a screenshot of the result showing scorers
The away player will post verifying the result
I will keep a table of all the results as well as a schedule of games yet to be played and a record of no-shows
You'll have to start a new game for each friendly that you play
Winner is the person with most points after 38 games

I'm sure there will be a few questions about the format, etc so the sign-up will not actually open until Wednesday 13th July at 5pm. This will allow everyone to be clear on what they are signing up for.

The Hamachi Guide. This is essential, all players must use Hamachi to connect to each other for the games.

Please be aware that the game is a little slower when you are connected over the network, so if you impatient then don't bother. It isn't too long and the games work well but something to consider.

Ok, so a few extra details:

Teams that you cannot choose

Basically, the top 10 richest clubs:

Barcelona
Real Madrid
Arsenal
Man City
Man Utd
Chelsea
Liverpool
Inter
Bayer
AC Milan

You can choose any other club in the world.

The Draft

Once the teams are decided, each player will be allowed to choose two players from the below list. This will be done in order of sign-up, one at a time. So, first sign up picks one players, second chooses their first player, etc until all 20 have chosen their first player. Then the first person to sign-up gets to choose their second player and we go through the cycle again.

I will then clone these players to their respective clubs and set up the league.

Disciplinary rules

So we might have an issue with dropouts, these will be controlled using the following measures.

1. I'll keep a reserves list of all the sign-ups who don't make it into the 20; in order of sign-up.

2. If a player doesn't play a match or post a reason for not being available in a seven-day-period, they will receive a "yellow card". Two yellow cards means that the player is expelled from the competition and a reserve takes his place.

3. If a player doesn't play a match or post a reason for not being available in a continuous 14 day period, they receive a "straight red card", meaning they are expelled from the competition and banned from future competitions. I'll also consider an infraction for being an arsehole.

4. The reserve who takes over will take over from where the dropout left off.

5. The managers at the end of this season will have first refusal for the following competition should this prove to be a success. That way there is an added incentive for reserves who may be required to take over towards the end of the competition.

Ok, so that should be all the information you require. Any questions? Fire away and I'll open the sign-up once everyone is satisfied that they know what's going on.

Remember, the sign-up won't actually open until Wednesday 13th July at 5pm.

Will players have to worry about wage budget, or can we choose just a team and then pick players regardless of their wages?

No need to worry about wages or transfer budget.

I will also be making every player in the squad injury free, 100% condition and superb morale so that everyone is on an equal footing.

Just a list that me and the other mods came up with. I wanted to give people options to fill gaps in their sides but I didn't want them to be able to make their teams significantly better than anyone else.

As Dan says, they are being cloned so there is the possibility that we could have two of the same player. Each player can only be chosen from the draft once though.

I'm not going to set a hard deadline to start with as I want to see how people get on. I'd like to see each person play three games a week as a minimum. If you are unavailable for a week or two then just post and let us know. At this time of year, we know holidays will limit some people's availability. It's just when people disappear without saying anything that it gets irritating.

I hope you keep saying cloned because that's what it's called in FMRTE. what I mean by that is the "duplicate player" option in the official editor doesn't work.

It worked when I was using it for newgen experiments earlier in the year. It didn't work on FM10 but has worked for me on FM11. Either that or I'll just use FMRTE or create the players from scratch.

I had thought about that. I haven't decided whether to do it by public posts in order which could take quite a bit of time or have the 20 successful players send me a PM with their top 10 requests and then I can work out who gets who.

You could set a draft date and time, then conduct it in real time through Manager Chat / IRC / some sort of IM, perhaps. Anyone who can't make it / doesn't turn up would have to sort through the leftovers.

Not too keen on doing that as I don't want to exclude too many people. Also, it means that I have to be online for the duration of this online chat which, with a young baby, could be problematic. I think I'll stick to a top ten wishlist and I can work it out in my own time.

I had no idea Hamachi didn't work on Macs. Can you test this Mac version and see if it works? Particularly when connecting to PC users?

Ok, so sign-up "opens" at 5pm. Please indicate your choice of team when posting. You cannot choose a team that someone above you has chosen. If you do, you will have to choose someone else at a later date. Reserves do not have to choose a team.

I'll be taking part but I'll choose my team after all of you have done so and go last in the draft.
