Additional informationThe Ukrainian First League, like the Premier League, was founded in 2001, following the dissolution of the Soviet Union (and therefore its league structures). As in other major European leagues, the reserves of some major teams (most notably Dynamo Kiev) participate, although they cannot gain promotion to the top league, which often works to the advantage of other teams competing for the top spots. The biggest challenges would probably be offered by Bukovnya Chernivtsi, Nyva Vinnytsia or Tytan Armyansk, the three newly promoted teams from the two groups of the Ukrainian Second League. Or you can return Zakarpattia Uzhgorod or the Black Sea club Chornomorets Odesa to the top league; the latter a former Ukrainian Cup winner and founding member of the league upon its inception but slipping from the limelight in recent years. Alternatively, take an unknown team from mid-table obscurity to promotion and eventually break the dominance of the two major Ukrainian clubs (Dynamo Kiev and Shakhtar Donetsk).
While the Ukrainian First League isn't on the level of some of Europe's other second tier leagues, it certainly offers a challenge to anyone wanting to bring glory to an unknown entity in European and world football and put the spotlight firmly on the East.
