Additional information
The Argentine Premier League was founded in 1891 and was the first football league founded outside of the United Kingdom. The league started as an amateur league and in 1931 turned professional when 18 teams broke away and took up professional status.

Since the professional era began there have been sixteen Premier Division Champions in the four different formats the league has undertaken in that period. As expected giants Club Atletico River Plate (33 titles), Boca Juniors (23 titles) and Independiente (14 titles) lead the way for titles won though in the most recent era the so-called smaller sides Lanús, Banfield, Estudiantes and Argentinos Juniors have had their moments of glory with Apertura and or Clausura titles of their own.

Interestingly the International Federation of Football History & Statistics actually rate the Argentine Premier League as the 7th best league in the world ahead of the top leagues in Portugal, Holland, Russia and Turkey.

The Argentine Premier League is a good place to manage if you fancy a South American career though the average points system that decides relegation can be a bit confusing at times. If you are looking for an easier challenge, River Plate or Boca Juniors as although they are the two most successful sides in Argentine football they have recently struggled to compete at the top of the league with the so-called lesser sides. Both have some great younger players coming through and excellent youth facilities to provide the next Lionel Messi, Diego Maradona or Kun Aguero.
