Would you fancy something different from football in the rest of the world? Major League Soccer (MLS) is professional football in the USA. The MLS was founded in 1993 as part of the United States bid to host the 1994 FIFA World Cup and began playing in 1996.

In it's current form, you will find 16 teams to choose from to start your career. You may prefer to defend the MLS Cup title of Real Salt Lake or the MLS Supporters' Shield of Columbus Crew. You might want the chance manage Arsenal's leading scorer, Thierry Henry or the former Barcelona star, Rafael Marquez both now with the New York Red Bulls. Or you might choose the LA Galaxy with David Beckham and Landon Donovan.

Whoever you choose, you will have to learn to navigate the salary cap rules, discovery players and designated player exceptions. You will also find yourself needing to understand Roster Guarantee Day (1st July, players released after this date still count on Salary Cap). You will find a domestic transfer window and two foreign transfer windows.

You will find yourself looking forward to the MLS Draft Combine and even the Waiver Draft. The world of US Soccer does not include promotion or relegation but that does not mean that failing managers won't dread facing their board. The challenge in the MLS is not the same as the rest of the world, but you will certainly find that is indeed a challenge.
