Football in Zimbabwe began when the country was known as Rhodesia back in the 1960s. Zimbabwean clubs and the national team have only begun to make their mark on the African game in the last couple of decades, however. Independence in 1980 and the consequent rise of Robert Mugabe, with all the cultural and political changes that this entailed, played a large part in shaping the modern Zimbabwean game.

Dynamos of Harare are the country's biggest and most successful club, but in recent years various different teams have been able to win trophies too. CAPS United, inter-city rivals of Dynamos, are never far from the top and Highlanders of Bulawayo, Monomotapa United and Gunners have all recently won titles. Monomotapa and Dynamos have also managed runs to the last eight of the CAF Champions League.

Zimbabwe's most notable footballing products have all been exported, mostly to England - Benjamin 'Benjani' Mwaruwari and Peter Ndlovu have both scored goals in the Premiership, while Bruce Grobbelaar kept goal for Liverpool for many years.

Included are the Premier Soccer League, Zimbabwe's top division, as well as two supplementary divisions which are fictitious. In reality there is some regionalisation in the lower tiers, but I don't have enough information available so have simply made two further playable 16 team divisions.

I have almost no information for the clubs in Division Two, so they have no kit colours or anything - but the clubs were in the database, so I thought I might as well include another division anyway. If this lack of info and different kits is likely to bother you, I suggest playing with only the PSL and Division One loaded.
